The waters around Block Island are famous for some of the greatest fishing in the Northeast. The water depths, proximity to the Gulf Stream, (migratory path) and the varied ocean bottom of shipwrecks and ledges make for an ideal habitat for many varieties of fish, and a long and abundant fishing season. Being based out of Block Island offers the advantage of some of the best inshore and offshore fishing to be found, right here in our own backyard. Stay inshore for bass, blues and fluke, or head offshore for tuna, sharks and more. Regardless of experience, the area offers something for everyone. When the first-time fisherman discovers the absolute thrill of fighting and landing that first catch, he’s sure to be hooked for life. And for the seasoned angler, there is no better place to find that trophy striper or to head out to the canyon for some big game action! We'll clean and package your catch to take home, and if you'd like, a few fillets can be grilled right at the inn when you return!

Sport fishing is an ideal family activity, allowing kids to fully participate with their parents, regardless of experience. I encourage you to take a child fishing; introduce them to a challenging and rewarding sport that fosters a respect and appreciation for the ocean, as well as the life skills of patience and perseverance. Fortunately for me, my grandfather started me with a rod and reel before the age of five, and I still recall the pure feeling of excitement and anticipation. As a child it was a truly wonderful experience, and 40 years later, I still get that same feeling each and every time out on the water!

I am excited to be offering sport fishing charters for guests, in groups of one to six people. I am a U.S. Coast Guard Licensed Master Captain, and the new boat, a Triton 2895 with twin Mercury 250HP Verados, is fully rigged with the best electronics for navigation and fishing, as well as professional-grade gear and tackle. Whether you have decades of experience or it’s your first time on the water, we can create a charter to suit your taste and provide a truly memorable experience.

Packages are available for a variety of fishing options. Click here for some package ideas. Choose a full day on the water or a short trip of a couple of hours. Stay at the inn for several days and get a few trips in! Specials are available for mid-week trips and group getaways. And take advantage of the seasons - Fall is another prime season for fishing and a fabulous time to visit the island, with great rates for lodging. Inshore, offshore or both, a family vacation or friends’ retreat, we can design a fishing package to suit your needs.

I hope you will join us for a memorable day on the water!

Additionally, my good friend Bill Brown is joining me in providing both inshore and offshore charters. Captain Bill Brown is a multiple record holder, accomplished tournament angler, and is well-known in the Northeast as one of the best offshore fisherman around. (Read more about Bill below!) Bill has been running charters out of Watch Hill, RI for over 25 years, and recently came to me with a great idea. He said, “Hey! I’m coming right past Block Island each time I head offshore. Why don’t we get together and offer packages with lodging!” For charter guests planning to fish around Block or offshore, the ability to stay on the island makes the boat trip shorter - and less time getting to the fishing destination means more time actually fishing! And for guests at the inn, an exciting opportunity is available to fish the nearby canyon for big-game fish like tuna and shark, guided by a local legend. I am thrilled to be teaming up with such a talented and experienced angler (and really fun guy!) to offer such a great option for our guests! (For more about Captain Bill Brown, read below and check out his website: www.BillfishCharter.com )

 About Capt. Bill Brown:

Sailing out of Watch Hill, RI, Capt. Bill Brown and his clients hold five Rhode Island and one MA State Game Fish Records and have won, or placed, in a multitude of both inshore and offshore tournaments, including First Place in the 2003 Oak Bluffs Monster Shark Tournament. In addition, Capt. Brown has fished from the Gulf of Maine to Havana, Cuba, and has over 40 years of saltwater charter experience holding a 100 Ton Master Mariner's License. He has been featured on regional and national outdoor television shows, is a featured speaker at sportsmen’s conventions, and is a well-known outdoor writer. When you’re staying at The Island Home, Bill will pick you up right around the corner in New Harbor.
